wedding registry

I wonder where y'all registered for your weddings (if you happen to be married)? We're trying to figure out where we want to register and don't want to get sucked into traps. I've heard Target is an absolute NO. Is there anywhere else you'd recommend or advise us to avoid?

Bed, Bath and Beyond is good. Here's the secret (double check this, though, because it's been three years since I got married.) Register for a ton more than you think you'll need. Then, you can return extra stuff/duplicate stuff/any stuff for cash (as long as it is on your registry). Cash is always better- you can pay rent, or buy groceries, or re-buy stuff you decide you actually want.

I was going to say the exact same thing that Barb did. We just put random stuff on there (like $25 things that people were likely to buy) and were able to return them for cash since they were on the registry. Very, very nice. Also, though, register for things you like. :) As much as you would rather have cash than that nice spatula, the spatula will come in handy eventually.

Two cents.

A third for B B & B, hands down. What do I wish I had done? Gotten everything at B B & B, returned for cash, then shopped cheep at Ross. But that's just me, you know how I do it :) I'll tell you more details later.

For sure Bed, Bath, and Beyond. They have a good return policy and let you have anything on your registry for like 20% off. I can't remember how much but it was a good place. Target is a pain in the butt to return stuff! But it is nice to get gift cards from there. And Williams Sonoma, I know it's expensive, but they are pretty good about returns and their gift cards can be used at the pottery barn stores as well.

Bed Bath & Beyond was fabulous. We returned a lot of stuff and got ourselves a sweet down comforter. Also, I know a lot of people who register at Macy's and you can also register at REI I think. I know some camping places are fabulous and I wish we had gotten a tent. Sigh. One day...

Williams-Sonoma is awesome. Like, fabulous. I love their stuff and their service and stuff are awesome. A little pricier, but not always. We also did Linens 'N Things (before it went under, which was actually rather fabulous as their stuff became dirt cheap) and Cutco. Random, I know, but we only had a few things on there and thus have amazing knives now.

Also, just fyi, almost no one will let you return stuff for cash anymore. Store credit, yes, but cash, no. Plus, I think people will feel better getting you something you actually want and will use than something you will just return. Just my opinion. :)

Uh, delete that second "and stuff." School is making me spacey.

Two & a half years later, all my favorite things that I use the most, are from Williams Sonoma.

The Bed, Bath & Beyond cash thing is great, & they have lots of things that WS doesn't -- just normal things you need like a trash can or an iron. But some BB+B stores are strict about the cash thing & only let you return up to so much to get cash back, and frankly I'd rather have credit at WS than BB+B. BB+B is too overwhelming for me & even my super frugal sister agrees their stuff is cheap but also is made cheap.

I also registered at Pottery Barn & love what we got from that store (big frames, our dishes, silverware, decor, etc.). PB & WS are owned by the same company, so a merchandise credit works at both -- and they give you 10% off for the first few months you are married ... or something like that.

Good luck! I loved registering & JT hated it ... well I made him do it for like 6 hours straight so I think that's why :) Opps.

Ditto all the good stuff that has been said about BB&B. However, while BB&B is wonderful and Lorri loved it, I personally enjoyed registering at REI much more - and the camping equipment has come in handy!

I would like to provide three suggestions:

REI.

REI.

And REI.

Hey Congratulations! I am so happy for you! I would definitely register at BBB. They have eveything you need even if it's not your favorite. I didn't register with Target because I heard they were a nightmare but I still received presents from there and had a nightmare taking them back. So I'm not sure if you can avoid the hardships of Target. But I really wanted these beautiful dishes at Pottery Barn, so I registered there just for those. I am so happy I did. I love using them! Good luck!

do you think it's creepy i'm reading your blog? well, i am. we liked registering at Target...we haven't had any problems returning stuff we didn't like and it turns out a lot of people assume you're registered there (if you don't put your registry on your invitations.) We didn't register at BedBathBeyond which ROCKED because then when people gave us gift cards or gifts from there, we could still buy the stuff from there that we didn't get @ target. Also agree with lizzie--Williams-Sonoma and PB are AMAZING. WS has the best stuff-it will last forever. The 10% off thing rocks too.
